Why Our Dog Wouldn’t Stop Barking at the Thanksgiving Turkey

Thanksgiving was already hectic when my husband, Kyle, came home with the turkey we’d pre-ordered. He looked frazzled, mumbled something about helping his mom, and rushed back out. I didn’t think much of it—until our dog, Max, started barking at the turkey like his life depended on it. At first, I thought he just wanted scraps, but he wouldn’t stop.

Finally, I gave in and unwrapped the turkey. That’s when I found something strange—a plastic bag hidden inside. Not stuffing. Not seasoning. Cash. Thousands of dollars. Panicked, I called the police. Two officers arrived, eyeing the turkey and the bag of money like it was the oddest thing they’d seen. And then Kyle walked in. His face turned pale when he saw them standing in our kitchen.

The truth? He admitted he’d withdrawn his savings to surprise me with a dream trip to Hawaii. Afraid I’d discover the money too soon, he stuffed it into the turkey before running out again. It was meant to be romantic—if only it hadn’t almost ended with me roasting our vacation fund in the oven.

By the end of the night, we laughed about it, though I teased Kyle endlessly. Max, of course, was the true hero and got extra turkey scraps. And yes—we did take that trip to Hawaii, all thanks to a barking dog and one very poorly hidden surprise.
