One day, we noticed two little kittens in our yard. Right away, we knew whose kittens they were. Their mother, a stray cat who often visits us for food, had previously given birth to kittens in our yard twice. This time, however, she gave birth elsewhere, though she occasionally brought the kittens to us.
We decided to move the kittens onto a warm jacket to keep them cozy. Soon after, the mother cat came and took one of the kittens, carrying it back to the neighbors where she had given birth. Strangely, she didn’t return for the second kitten.
We waited a long time, hoping the mother would come back for her other baby, but she never did. Concerned for the kitten’s well-being, we decided to take it to our purebred cat, who had recently given birth to a single kitten. Our cat sniffed the new arrival, then gently picked it up and placed it with her own baby, accepting it as her own.
