I saw it—a pair of eyes staring back at me from the darkness under the bed. My heart skipped a beat, and a surge of adrenaline coursed through my body. I froze, my mind racing to understand what I was seeing.
Murphy let out a low growl, a sound I’d never quite heard from him before. It was a warning, a signal that something was amiss. The eyes blinked once, slowly, and I realized they belonged to a small creature
It was some kind of animal, not a monster or a person. Still, it didn’t belong in my bedroom.
I took a deep breath, trying to calm my racing heart. If Murphy wasn’t attacking, maybe it wasn’t a threat.
I slowly got up and reached for my phone on the nightstand, turning on the flashlight function. The sudden burst of light made the shadows under the bed dance, and I heard a rustling sound. Whatever was under there was starting to move.
I pointed the light again, more steadily this time, and got a better view of the creature. It was a raccoon! Its fur was matted and dirty, and it looked just as startled as I felt. How on earth had a raccoon gotten into my house, let alone my bedroom
